Experience:

Welcome to Aldon Tutoring Centres, Ballarat. This centre is owned and operated by a qualified and highly trained teacher who is passionate about making a positive impact on learning for children who are struggling at school.  With over 30 years’ experience, Christine Phillips has the expertise to make a real difference to your child's education.  She has worked with many students of varying abilities, needs, backgrounds and ages. During her time in education, Christine has worked as: a classroom teacher; a Reading Recovery Teacher; and as an English/Numeracy tutor for adults. At Aldon, Christine specialises in teaching Maths to Year 9; literacy intervention for children and adults; and helping those with a visual processing disorder called Irlen Syndrome. Christine is a certified Irlen Screener and a member of the Australasian Association of Irlen Consultants. She is able to detect Irlen Syndrome and also provide specialised tutoring for individuals who have not developed adequate reading and spelling skills because of it.

Does your child continue to have reading or spelling difficulties despite intervention at school? Does your child come home often feeling exhausted or with headaches? Has your child been labelled as: “easily distracted”; “may have ADD/ADHD”; “lazy” or “dumb”?  Are they sensitive to glare/light?  These are symptoms of Irlen Syndrome which affects around 45% of people who have learning difficulties and others to a lesser degree.  Affected individuals can have 20:20 vision and seem intelligent in other areas. Irlen Syndrome is often inherited but can be caused by brain trauma. Call Christine today to find out if Irlen Syndrome could be causing yours or your child’s problems.

Testimonials:

"Thank you again for the Irlen Screening last year, it has made a huge difference. Isaac has come a very long way in 18 months, he can read a lot more, decode some words and … his glasses (Irlen lenses) have made a massive improvement on his ability to write among all the other benefits (stops nail biting, being fidgety, not tired at the end of the school day etc). 18 months ago he was starting second year of prep, classed as a non reader despite knowing his alphabet and numbers for 3 years at that stage as well as being very quick to pick new things up. Thanks so much." Shelley (mother).  This gorgeous young boy has recently read 100 books, competing in the M.S Readathon and has consequently raised $300 to support sufferers of Muliple Sclerosis!

I knew I was in the right place the moment we walked in. The Centre is great. Bella loves coming to you. Thank you so much for the work you have done with Bella and the continual contact with her teacher. You have worked wonders. We have a long way to go still, but know we are getting there because of your wonderful work.
Thank you so much.
Annette and James

Before coming to Aldon, Macy was behind with both her reading and writing skills. Now, her confidence has increased as well as noticeable improvement with both her reading and spelling.

Jack has a learning disability and delayed learning. However, after coming to Aldon for only a short period of time, he has improved his times tables greatly.
Stacey (Mother)

My daughter's school reports reflect that she is responding very well to maths tutoring at Aldon. She's doing much better and says she really enjoys it, so thank you.
